The Mark:
Mido was founded in 1918 by Georges Schaeren. The name Mido comes from the Spanish phrase “Yo mido”. The goal of the Swiss eclectic orology centre was to immediately give the brand the imprint of an innovative brand and with a compact and simple style, which could resist walking modes. Today we talk so much about the connection between the world of the watches and that of the engines, but already in 1920 Mido designed watches that inspired, in shape, to the grid of the radiator of a car.
The brands that inspired Georges Schaeren were the most famous of the time, in Europe and the United States: Buick, Bugatti, Fiat, Ford, Hispano-Suiza. In 1925 the company, which also welcomes new investors and changes its name to “Societé Anonyme Mido”. The Board of Directors has since been formed by the Schaeren brothers and Hugo Jubert. The original site of the factory remains in Solothurn, but Mido watches also opens offices in Biel.
The watches Mido brand prompted from its birth to immediately propose both watches women and men. If, in the case of the watches Mido female, the goal was to create refined watches, inspired by the fashion of time, and art deco, the watches Mido men’s were immediately characterized by a sports personality, a simple design and intended to last over time. A concept that is also expressed in the current vision and production of watches.
